Handsome Hunks of Hood County February 3, 2012 at 6:44 pm

Power and beauty move in a seamless integration of grace and muscles, strutting down the runway to coyly pose for photo shoots. A quick intake of air may be heard from the females in the audience or a hoot and a laugh-out-loud moment at this boot-scooting and hip-hop dancing male beauty pageant spoof.

Ladies, grab your pocketbook, clean your glasses and head for the Granbury Resort Conference Center for the 2nd Annual Handsome Hunks of Hood County on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m. to raise money for Ruth’s Place. This good time fund-raiser was so successful last year that everyone insisted on a repeat. The Hunks of Hood County “beauty” pageant happens after a culmination of at least ten minutes of preparations by contestants.

“This event is all about letting yourself go, and having a good time,” explains 2011 title holder, Dr. Justus Peters. “It (winning the title) will provide plenty of laughs for the first month or two, and then everyone will forget that you tried to disco to slow music.”

Edward Sandelin, Sandelin Custom Homes Corp. and Sandelin Realty Group, competed last year and this is what he says about his experience: “The “Hunks” fundraiser is great fun, and a great way to get to know other area professionals while supporting a great cause. I highly recommend the experience.”

“It’s always a good thing to do when you can help places like Ruth’s Place,” explains Cutter Thompson, owner of Joe’s Pasta and Pizza and one of last year’s favorite Hunks. “Having a great time makes it even better,”

Tickets cost $20.00 each and are available at Granbury Care Center and Tex-Star Medical Equipment. This event is sponsored by 24 local businesspersons including Judith Clevenger/Granbury Care Center, Mark Clevenger/The Oaks of Granbury, Samantha Bozeman/Tex-Star Medical Equipment and Lisa Fehler/Universal Hospice.

“Last year’s event was just spectacular to say the least. People still talk about it,” said Judith Clevenger organizer and the biggest fan of Handsome Hunks of Hood County.

Hunks willing to entertain you for the evening and support a great cause include: lawyers, doctors, a golf-pro, a city councilman, a grocery store manager, insurance men, realtors, and a football coach, not to mention some of the best-looking businessmen in the state. One contestant from last year who claims he’s the “new and improved hunk” lost over 50 pounds, leaving pure muscle for this year’s event. The amazing Granbury Pirate Football team will hip-hop and dance their way into your hearts to make this an event you don’t want to miss.

A live auction to win a dinner date with single hunks Craig DeWitt or Mitch Tyra will add to the money raised for Ruth’s Place. And it kicks off pre-sells for the greatly sought after 2012 Handsome Hunks of Hood County Calendars for only $20.00. Samples of the calendars will be available at the event or at Granbury Care Center. Soft drinks, water and chips/refreshments will be served. For more information call Judith Clevenger at 817.573.3726.

Ruth’s Place

The purpose of Ruth’s Place Clinic is to provide free medical and other family services as needed to indigent, low income, uninsured or underinsured families. This is done through collaboration with numerous resource entities available in Hood County and intensive case management with the families.

Ruth’s Place volunteers operate a once-a-week food pantry at its Maplewood facility. We (changed to first person) partner with Granbury First United Methodist Church in this project. The church purchases the food and delivers it to Ruth’s Place. Volunteers then sort and distribute to our lower income families. www.ruthsplace.org

Ruth’s Place also partners with Stonewater Church to provide other services to families in the community served by the Maplewood facility such as yard cleanup, trash hauling, light carpentry work, etc.
